ESL Program
Saint Joseph School offers English as Second Language Program (ESL) for those students who do not have the level of English required for the entry grade determined by a standardized test results.
The ESL program is designed to help students who are learning English as a second, third, or in some cases, a fourth language. We offer this service starting in First grade all the way to Eighth grade.
This program focuses on developing and strengthening English skills, in reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as the social, instructional, and academic language that students need to engage with peers, educators, and the curriculum in schools.
During the month of September, students are assessed using the WIDA MODEL - Measure of Developing English Language Program to determine whether the student would benefit from the ELL-English Language Learners- services. The proficiency levels in speaking, reading, writing and listening is the data we utilize to differentiate instruction in the classroom to help ELL grow in each area; and also work with the classroom teacher through collaboration and co-teaching. This includes whole class and small-group instruction-Push in.
Saint Joseph School ofrece el programa de inglés como segundo idioma (ESL) para aquellos estudiantes que no tienen el nivel de inglés requerido para la admisión del colegio, determinado por los resultados de un examen estandarizado.
El programa de ESL está diseñado para ayudar a los estudiantes que están aprendiendo inglés como segundo, tercero o, en algunos casos, un cuarto idioma. Ofrecemos este servicio desde el primer grado hasta el octavo grado.
Este programa se enfoca en desarrollar y fortalecer las habilidades de inglés, en lectura, escritura, expresión oral y comprensión auditiva, así como en el lenguaje social, educativo y académico que los estudiantes necesitan para interactuar con sus compañeros, educadores y el currículo de estudios.
Durante el mes de septiembre, los estudiantes son evaluados usando el MODELO WIDA - Programa de medición del desarrollo del idioma inglés para determinar si el estudiante se beneficiaría de los servicios ELL-Estudiantes del idioma inglés. Los niveles de competencia en hablar, leer, escribir y escuchar son los datos que utilizamos para diferenciar la instrucción en el aula. Esto contribuye a los ELL a desarrollarse mejor en cada área. También trabajamos con el maestro del aula a través de la colaboración y la co-enseñanza. Esto incluye instrucción general y en grupos pequeños.
